Process of an Essay

·         Essay is a writing to inform your readers about how to do something or to describe the order or steps in a procedure.

·     This type of essay is particularly important in scientific or technical fields.

·     The process should be arranged according to time order.

·     Essay Structure:

I.      Introduction

Ø  General Statements

Ø  Thesis Statement

II.     Body Paragraph (usually 3 paragraphs)

A.    Topic sentence

1.   Supporting sentence

2.   Supporting sentence

3.   Supporting sentence

(Conclusion sentence)

B.     Topic sentence

1.   Supporting sentence

III.    Conclusion

Restatement or summary of the main points; final comment.

·  Process Essay (Pattern of Organization):

I.         Introduction:

1.   State what the process is and why it is

2.   Give background information

3.   State the thesis sentence to include the purpose and the main idea of the essay.

II.        Body paragraph:

Topic sentence and supporting sentences.

III.      Conclusion:

1.      Paraphrase the thesis sentence

2.      Summarize the main steps of the process (restatement)
